Adapt vs answer vs tailored to your needs

How would you naturally say these 2 sentences?

1 The average length of a tie is tailored/adapted to the average height height of the countries population. Since the french are reputed to be small, their ties are not very long.

2 We as the receptionist need to adapt to the client/answer/adapt to the clients needs.

Does this make sense "We as the receptionist need to adapt to the client" and what does it mean?

Thank you
