Adapt

I don't know when we use adapt for and when we use adapt to.

I find it is hard to know when do I use FOR and when do I use TO.

I find in Oxford Dictionary that adapt have three meaning. I just want to ask about the first and second meaning.

1) (transitive) to change sth in order to make it suitalbe for a new use or situatio.

Most of these tools have been specially adapted for use by disabled people.

2) (intransitive, transtitive) to change your behaviour in order to deal more succ

For #1, I think that 'to' can also be used.

For #2, I think that 'for' can also be used.

I feel a subtle difference, but it is not easily expressed. 'To' is a more direct or specific adaptation: that is all, really.
