Hi, ..
The following is part of a paragraph taken from the Wilipedia page on black mass 2015:
"In preparing for his role, Depp similarly studied surveillance and police audio footage involving Bulger. The actor was adamant in depicting the Boston gang leader's criminal and personal life as would be ultimately portrayed in the film. To achieve that, Depp attempted to meet with Bulger himself, but was declined a meeting and instead consulted https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._W._Carney_Jr., Bulger's attorney."

I checked the meaning of adamant online, and I believe I understand its usage. But in the passage above, I am confused by "as would be ultimately portrayed in the film" and can't make much sense of the whole sentence. Is it trying to say Depp was insistent that the character be presented the way it actually was later done (meaning he wanted to do it in a certain way, and that later proved to be the case)? Or is that similar to saying:
.. as to what would be ultimately portrayed ..
, or:
.. as matters what would be ultimately portrayed ..
, for example ..?
Thanks in advance.
Wikis are riddled with mistakes, almost by definition. "Adamant in depicting" is wrong usage, but we almost know what he meant, that Depp was adamant about playing Bulger the way he wanted. Depp was unyeilding when others tried to persuade him to depict Bulger differently, and his way is what we see in the finished movie.
