Acts as a barrier

Are these few sentences correct?

I don't mind walking my dog off leash down this block. There is a hedge along the side of the road that acts as a barrier of the road. If the dog wanted to run onto the road, it would have a hard time doing so because of the hedge.

Thanks

Anonymous acts as a barrier of along the road. This is the only change needed. The rest is good.
