Active/Passive Voice

"John waited for six hours and was told that he needed to wait 10 more hours."

If you had to categorize this sentence as a single type, would it be considered passive, active, or both?

Or would it not be considered as a single type?

In my opinion, I consider it a mix of active and passive voice. " John waited for six hours ( Active ) and was told ( Passive ) that he needed to wait ten more hours. ( Active ) " Do you mean by a single type that you have to choose either active or passive?

  • If so, I wouldn't choose one because I think the sentence includes both.

Voice (active or passive) is related to verbs.

Sentences with multiple full clauses can have many verbs. Each one needs to be considered separately.

Why would you have to do that? Is your teacher asking you to do that?

Given the sentence "I have a cat and a dog", do you suppose someone would ask you to categorize that as "I have two cats" or "I have two dogs"?
