active/outgoing

Those who are a bit more active enjoy Okinawa's excellent snorkeling, scuba diving, windsurfing, and sea Kayaing.

Hi,

Does "active" in the above refer to "outgoing" to you? Thanks.

Top answer

No, it doesn't. To me outgoing suggests friendly (among other things) and active does not.

Thanks, Amy.

Then what does "active" refer to here?

Hi,
Physically active, able to undertake physical activities such as these.

To me, it simply refers to people who do things. You might say that 'a sedentary person' is the opposite of 'an active person'. You might say that 'active member' here at EF is a member who posts (does something) in the forums, and an 'inactive member' does not, for example.
