Active vs passive

Hello,

In active voice the doer or the agent is the theme of the sentence, whereas in passive voice the action is more important.

Is the above only difference between an active and passive voice?

Thanks.

An active sentence follows the pattern of <subject> <verb> <object>, while this order is generally reversed in the passive voice. However, the naming of the parts of the sentence changes as well, so there is a new subject (which had been the object), followed by the verb, followed by the agent (which had been the subject). George kicked the ball - subject, verb, object.

  • The ball was kicked by George - subject, verb, agent.
  • The subject changes and there is now no object in this simple passive sentence.
