Active Passive voice

Hello

I have a probleme with a specific sentence.

The scientists have been researching on alternative energies for a long time.

Can someone transform this sentence into passive voice?

My idea was:

Alternative energies have been beeing researched by scientists for a long time.

But that sound a little bit weird for me...

Thx

Yours

Hello, Daniel - and welcome to English Forums. Yes, that is weird. And "correct".

  • That is why active-passive conversion exercises are a waste of student time.
  • They are used only because they are easy for teachers to grade.

When I die and get to have my "So how come...?" conversation with ***, asking why ESL teachers and students are so fascinated by the passive voice will be one of my questions.

Technically correct, but every grammarian I am familiar with says the continuous perfect and pluperfect tenses are not used in the passive voice.

Ask Him about the fascination with "indirect speech" for me as well, in case I don't get there. Maybe He'll let you e-mail me the answer "down there".
