Active or Passive voice?

What's the rule of Swollen in below sentence??

*The river was swollen with melted snow.*

swollen* is an adjective and the whole phrase is active voice or *swollen is past participle form and the whole sentence is passive??

'Was' is the linking verb, 'Swollen' is an adjective. 'With melted snow' is an adverb. That's how I see it.

'Was' is the linking verb, 'Swollen' is an adjective. 'With melted snow' is an adverb.

You can say: " The river is swelling with the snow runoff". You can also use "cresting" and "swollen" to describe a river which is rising rapidly. Each word projects a slight different meaning however.

I think it's essentially a passive form; however, both perceptions are possible, depending on how you think of it.
