Active and passive voice

Can passive voice follow active in the same sentence? For instance: The director came forward to greet him and was later on followed by the manager.

I have nothing more to explain. It just occurs to me that when you have the subject of one clause becoming the object of the other clause, some constructions could be confusing to the reader.
