Act up

A person told me the following:

My computer is acting up nowadays probably a virus has gone on to the system.

Is it correct to say acting up?

I am used to saying something like one of my computers does not work properly nowadays.

Both versions are fine. The "acting up" version carries a possible suggestion (at least to me) that the computer is behaving badly on purpose, like a mischievous child.
