across/ across from / opposite

across from/ across/ opposite what are the differences among them? can anyone explain it to me...

Top answer

A is across from B. A is across (the street/table/world from) B. A is opposite B.

  • A is across from B.
  • A is across (the street/table/world from) B.
  • A is opposite B.
  • No real definable difference that I can see, GB, except for highly collocated cases (across the world) and their slightly different structure ( across takes the preposition, opposite does not) Other opinions likely exist.
