Acrid/ acerbic

Hi,

What is the difference between 'acrid' and 'acerbic'?
Are they almost always interchangeable?

Thanks in advance

Lemons -- acerbic

Burning rubber -- acrid

Also, "acerbic" is often used figuratively (e.g. "acerbic wit"), "acrid" less so.

Thanks Mr Wordy.

My dictionary strangely offers only the 'figurative' definition of 'acerbic', so I didn't know it could be used to describe lemons.

Thanks again!
