Vocabulary

acquaintance

Is the word “acquaintance” often used in spoken speech? Is it OK to say:

"He was my acquaintance."

Thank you in advance.

Even though I normally avoid the 'double possessive', I have to agree with Annvan. An acquaintance is less intimate than friend.
