acidic or acid?

What is the difference in meaning between these words? An example:

- Coca-Cola is acid
- Coca-Cola is acidic

But what about using 'acid' as an adjective? I checked dictionary.com and in the entry for 'acid', it gives the example: "an acid fruit"

Acid is most commonly used as a noun, but can also be used as an adjective. Acidic is an adjective.

Vinegar is a weak acid.
Oranges contain citric acid.
An unripe persimmon tastes acidic.

Coca-Cola is not an acid. ascetic acid, carbolic acid, lactic acid, sulfuric acid and citric acid are acids.

I see no difference as long as the first one does not read 'an acid'. As AS says, 'acid' can be an adjective. Coke is not an acid, but it is acid (= acidic).

Thank you so much for your helpful answers. So if I understood correctly, both can be used, but which is to prefer? When I google for "xyz is acidic", I get much more results than for "xyz is acid", so would you agree that "acidic" is to prefer?

Google is generally a good guideline—and AS has already explained that 'acidic' is the better adjective.

If you need a noun, use "ACID"
If you need an adjective, use "ACIDIC"
