Achievement courtiers

I think 'courtiers with great achievements' is too verbose; is there a word referring to those courtiers who have achieved a good deal with the emperor and have become very powerful at court?

-When he ascended the throne, he found those ___ threatening his power as emperor; later his only son died, leaving a weak and feeble grandson. Therefore, he decided that he would purge the power hierarchy of them.

Thank you.
