Accountable (to sb) (for sth) // ~ not an individual?

1. Since students work together the group is accountble not an individual.

I found 'accountable' in my dictionary. The usage of it is this: ~ (to sb) (for sth).

But #1 found from my book doesn't look like it follows my dictionary.

Don't you use 'accountable' in #1 like ~~ is accountable not as an individual?
