Accommodate a course

"In the second edition,we have broadened the coverage somewhat to accommodate a second course for mechanical engineering majors, primarily by inclusion of a chapter on chemical reactions.this chapter focuses on combustion processes, with an introduction to chemical equilibrium."

What does it mean by "to accommodate a course" used here?

P.S: I do not know the source and I made a search for it but cannot find anything. It was in my files and is probably from textbooks.

Thank you.

What do you think "to adapt a second course" instead of "to accommodate a second course" ? Would it be correct and usual?

Thank you.
