You imply that "he" has been hailed as only one among several leading heros taking part in this production. Even in movies like The Magnificent Seven, or Ocean's Eleven, or The Dirty Dozen, there's usually one main "hero/star" figure.

I benumbed when I saw him running nude. I suppose you could say 'I was benumbed...' but it sounds very bizarre. I don't think I've ever come across a use of the word 'benumbed'. One of those words that exists but isn't really used. 'I felt numb when ...' is better. Although I suspect you wanted to express some feeling of shock, and this implies a lack of interest/feeling. Look for another word altogether.
