accept consultation or give consultation or something else?

I want to mean that doctors of other departments would consult her (who is a ENT specialist) about their patients, i.e. they ask her for her specialist's advice for their patients. Could I use expressions like "she would accept consultation or give consultation to doctors of other departments"

Thanks in advance!

Thank you GG [D]

Yes, "..consult with..." is what I found in my dictionary too.

But I'm curious if there are natural expressions in English to mean "give and accept consultation"----two differnt directions of the couse of cunsul

Give guidance or recommendations, and ask for guidance or recommendations. Although in real life, one person does give the advice, the word "consult" doesn't seem to take a direction. We are consulting with Dr. Smith on this means you are asking Dr. Smith for her advice. Dr. Smith is consulting on the case means that Dr. Smith is giving the advice.

Hmm, Thanks! I should find a picture for this explanation now.

Mind you, my medical knowledge comes from Grey's Anatomy and General Hospital and the like. Actually, not General Hospital. I don't think they actually do any medicine on that show.

Hi guys,

Here is a comment about 'direction'.

The verb 'consult' means 'seek advice (or information) from a person (or from a resource such as a book)'.

Thus, if Tom consults (sometimes followed by 'with') Mary, it means that Tom seeks advice from Mary.

A person called 'a consultant' is someone from whom you seek advice.
