Everybody has an accent. There's need to be ashamed of yours.

People who try to change their accent usually end up sounding pretentious or ridiculous.

Even professional actors, with the aid of voice coaches and hours of practice, often get it hopelessly wrong.

What kind of accent do people tell you that you have? Even native speakers have an accent, usually one that betrays where they were brought up. Do you mean that you have traces of a foreign (non-English) accent?
