accent tiles

What are 'accent tiles' if we're talking about housing stuff?

Thanks,

Hello, MTL, I gathered they're tiles for the bathroom, or for the kitchen, with a rather large drawing on them. It's not part of a drawing, it's a complete one. they're meant for decoration, of course.

Hi pieanne,

Do you know why they are so named 'accent'?

The word accent can be used in other ways such as French accent, British accent ...etc.

Thanks for the reply.

It doesn't make much sense in French... Maybe accent>stress>emphasis: it's a tile meant to be noticed because of the drawing that's on it?

Does anyone else know why accent tiles are so named 'accent'?

Thanks,

Hi,

I think an accent tile is a tile that has a different colour or design than most of the others. It's purpose is to high-light or draw attention to or complement the main color/design.

It's the same, for example, as a woman who puts some 'accents' into her hair.

Best wishes, Clive

Hi Clive,

"for example, as a woman who puts some 'accents' into her hair."

Can you say it, as a woman who adds some 'high-lights' into her hair?"

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Hi,

Yes, I think so. So, I suppose you could say high-light tiles, but we don't.
