[Academic writing]How to combine these two sentences?

Hello guys,
I am confusing how to combine these two sentences. Is it proper to cancel the period ? Also can you please help me check the grammar ?
"This report focuses on the comparisons with Generation Y in China and that of America. Then suggest reasons for the similarities and differences."
thanks!

The problem seems to be that the first sentence is a summary or thesis, and the second is instructional. The two do not really mix well together. So decide what you want for this sentence: 1) It is a summary or a thesis of a report.
