Academic Writing Task 2

Several decades ago, most people in modern economies worked in the same organization for the majority of their working life. Today, it is very likely that a person may be employed in upwards of a dozen companies throughout their career.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Some would argue that in the past, people used to work in the same company all their lives, while others think that nowadays changing jobs frequently can be beneficial for futures carers. By changing workplaces often, people can gain a lot of experience while keeping a job for a long period of time can increase promotion chances.

On the one hand, working for different companies can be a great way to find the perfect future job. By doing this a person can become multi-skilled and they can be very valuable for the companies. An expert in jobs will always know the advantages and disadvantages of a specific domain and following this patch they can find their dream job. For example, a study in Russia has shown that 65% of younger citizens tried a lot of job positions until they will become stable at a single company.

On the other hand, the chances of getting a raise are high if a person would work at the same job all their lifetime. Dedicating all their lives to one single workplace, people in charge can see their effort and dedication when it comes to complete projects and this will always be rewarded. For example, my mother and her sister worked at the same company 20 years ago. While my mother continued to work there, her sister resigns and started to work at different companies. My mother got promoted very quickly afterward while my aunt is still looking for the perfect job for her.

In conclusion, while more and more young adults are never pleased with their job and changed it very often for experience needs I believe that this is a major drawback for their CV because this will make them an unreliable and unstable person. Keeping a job for life can make a person reliable and trust-worthy.

Thank you!
