Please tell me if this is OK.
"I would like to tell you that your performance in academic subjects( English Math, Science) is not up to the mark."

Please tell me why we need not capitalize math and science.
(My guess- Is it because they refer to school subjects here?)

They are not proper nouns, such as those that uniquely name people, cities, etc.

Nevertheless, if you are thinking of them as the titles of specific courses within a given academic institution, then capitalize them.

I wanted to know if the expression academic subjects is the one native speakers use.

In our place 'academics' is quite commonly used to refer to performance in the subjects we have in school.

And I remembered someone correcting me in forums with the term but of course it was in a different context, I think.

So my question was basically to check the c

The term 'academic subjects' usually refers to subjects that have significant intellectual content, eg languages, science, math.
But not subjects like eg auto mechanics, woodwork, *** education.
