Abuse

Hello,

According to my dictionary, one abuses alcohol if they drink too much and too often than they should, but is it correct to say "abuse cigrettes"?

Everybody drinks from time to time (at weddings or birthay parties), so it's relatively easy to move on to abusing alcohol, but with cigarettes it's different.

Could you please explain?

Thank You

While there is a clearly seen abuse of alcohol (drinking so much that you are incoherent, obnoxious, or self-endangering), there is also a socially acceptable level of drinking. Although you may be abusing your body by smoking too much, there is no abusive level of smoking. All you get is lots of smoke. It doesn't change your behavior.

Does that explain?
