Absentmindedly

Hi.

Can you please tell me if 'absentmindedly' works well in the sentences?

If I wrote 'absently' instead would they mean the same thing?

1. He absentmindedly watched his wife put on make-up in the bathroom.

2. He sat in the locker room, absentmindedly turning a baseball in his hand.

Top answer

I don't hear people say 'absently'. Absentmindedly needs to be used in a context where you carelessly forget litlle things. I don't see that context here.
