Absences
It sounds strange to use 'absences' here. What should I do?

If above stated hypotheses are applied on analysis of ethnic relations in certain multiethnic areas of the Republic of Croatia which witnessed various levels of social disintegration as well as instances or absences of ethnic violence during recent multiethnic tensions, then it seems acceptable to assume that due to different social and historical experiences in those periods, multiethnic areas of 'peace' and multiethnic areas of 'conflicts' would show different types of multiethnic solidarity, which would be evident in different degrees of general openness towards members of other ethnic groups and in different degrees of interethnic connection between members of different groups in everyday life.
