About the position of very much along with afraid

Hello, everyone!

I am looking for the approprait postions of very much in sentences. Could you take a look at the sentences below?

1.I’m very/ very much afraid that your son may be involved in the crime. (O)
2.I’m afraid that your son may be involved in the crime very much (X)
3. I’m afraid very much that your son may be involved in the crime. (?)
4.I’m afraid very that your son may be involved in the crime. (?)

I guess #1 is right, and #2 could sound wrong. (Though as to #2 I am not completely sure, it does not looks good, because very much is too far away from afraid.) But, As for #3 and #4 I have no idea. They are so close that we can easily indentify the relation of very (much) and afraid. But they seem to sound not good. Are #3 and #4 right and natural?

Many thanks in advance!

Definitely the first one. The second sounds more like you're saying that you're afraid because of the amount of crime your son is involved in, not the fact that he is involved in crime altogether, which I don't think is what you mean. " Throw out the last two; they're not correct.

And if it is, the correct syntax would be "I'm afraid that your son may be very much involved in crime." Throw out the last two; they're not correct.
