about the 'not only but also' construction

Teacher, doesn't it sound unnatural to say like this?:
"In that restaurant, the dishes did not only agree with me, but also the waiter was very unkind."

I think that a single subject should govern both the 'not only' and the 'but also' parts. Am I wrong?

Top answer

The whole sentence is a little odd. — In that restaurant, not only did the dishes not agree with me, but also the waiter was very unkind.
