Could any native to right my naive ideas about [eye to eye]?

I see eye to eye with my wife. -----(of me) Connected with my wife, I can see the thoughts or ideas about something pass through the two person's eye in exchange.

It's an idiom. It's often hard to figure out why we say such things.

My earlier suggestion was that maybe the idea is that "We see things in the same way, figuratively speaking".
