About the kitten that was hurt ...

I try to write in a paragraph, can you help me to correct?

(i) It was a bright sunny day. John saw a kitten who hurt its leg in the drain on his way back home. Its leg was bleeding profusely. He felt sorry and took it home immediately.

(ii) It was a bright Sunday morning. John saw a kitten trapped / was trapped / that was trapped / trap / trapping in the drain. He felt sorry for it and took it home quickly.
