The colors always make me puzzled.This time I came across "in the read",and I don't know it's meaning.Please help me,thank you very much!!!

Sometimes "in the red" means in debt, owing money one doesn't have. Does this make sense in the context?

I'll add this footnote. When accountants still kept their books by hand, red ink was used to show a deficit. Hence the terms "in the red" and "out of the red".
