"and I answered that I wanted to work for UPS because I like the brown uniforms."
Comparing to Japanese, English is very strict about tenses. So I wonder why this sentence is not like, "and I answered that I wanted to work for UPS because I liked the brown uniforms."
Would you explain why?
Thank you,

I think it is because it's a fact that you like brown uniforms. It doesn't change. You either like it or not.

I think it is because it's a fact that you like brown uniforms.
It doesn't change.
You either like it or not.
And you like it all the time, not only at the time when you answered that you wanted to work for UPS.
It's the same for the unversal facts.
