About [she was returned to Parliament]

Hi,

The whole sntence is : [At the general election she was returned to Parliament with an increased majority.]

I try to deconstruct it. And the sentence in my votion is:

[At the general election her voters had her belong to Parliament in return with a majority increased by them.]

or [At the general election her voters supported, and in return she belonged to Parliament]

the object of my deconstruction is [she was returned to Parliament] and [an increased majority];

[she was returned to Parliament]-----her voters had [her belong to Parliament]in return= her voters supported, and in return she belonged to Parliament ;

another [she was returned to] is the same as:

A woman may offten be referred to as a modern Lot's wife.

[an increased majority]-----a majority was increased by her voters;

Could any native speaker right me?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Clive,

Thank you for your teaching.

I want to know the reason why the verb 'return' is 'elect'?

I try to search an answer to that, and do a decostruction of that above.

she was returned to Parliament = She belonged to Parliament in return for her voters' support. = She was ellected to Parliament.

Will you tell me why do this way?

Hi,

The election officials hand out the voting papers to the voters. The voters mark them with their votes, and then return them to the election officials. I think that's why votes and voting results are called 'returns'.

Is it the same process in your country?

Hi,

Thank you very much.

That take me a long time to fond the reason.

And in Taiwan, there seem to be a hot belief in votes, and we are all involved in it everyday.
