"The man is about to die."
I've read that in this sentence "to die" is a noun Infinitive used as the object of a preposition 'about'.
But Macmillan Dictionary says that 'about' is an adverb when it is followed by an Infinitive with 'to'.
Is "about" a preposition or an adverb in the given sentence?
The man is about to die . Dictionaries are not entirely consistent about the classification of the "about" in your example I'd classify it as an adjective by virtue of "about to die" being complement of "be". org/wiki/about
