About "no why"

Is it an offense to respond as" no why" when someone asked "why"?

Someone told me it was, from the english-speaking people's mind……

With thanks

g. ' or 'no, why is that'? Well that's what I think but just wait for Mister Macawber or one of the other main contributors to give you a more elaborated detail.

I wouldn't think so, if the question was asked to you about something and then you respond to them 'No' then immediately asked 'why' e.g. 'no, why?' or 'no, why is that'? I don't think so, but it seems a strange response. Did you mean, "No reason"? You haven't provided much context, so it's hard to judge.

In addition to buckmajor, we wouldn't use 'No why' if a question contained 'Why?' but you might ask, "Why not?"
eg: A: "Let's go and check out the new restaurant."
B: "Why?"
A: "Why not?" he means that there is no reason not to go.

So saying "no why" is not idiomatic?

That's correct. It is not idiomatic. I find it difficult to find any definite meaning for it.

More idiomatically:

-- Why do you do this?
-- Because I like to.

-- Why do you do this?
-- Because I want to.

-- Why do you do this?
-- No particular reason.
