as far as I know could is used to ask for permission (Could I borrow your pen?), to make a request (Could you repeat it, please?), to make a suggestion (It could be done this way), to express future possibility (We could visit Thailand in the future), or to describe an ability in the past (I could play the piano when I was six) .
