About 'in person'

I should've written to you in person.

Is 'in person' used correctly here, if what I mean is I should not have delivered the message through another person?

I wouldn't use in person. Use personally or myself instead. In person implies physical presence. Even talking on the phone wouldn't qualify as in person.
