I heard I should not use the verb promise with the progressive tense. However, I have thought about the reason because the verb promise didn't seem a state verb to me. So, I presumably have supposed the prohibition of the use of the verb from the progressive tense is because promise imply sort of long activity in time. If it were so, I guess I could use the progressive tense with promise to mean you did not keep your promise like the follwing .
A : You did give the promise to me. B : I did... A: Then, why haven't you keep the promise still? B: ....(silent)... A : Were you promising that just for avoiding that moment?
I put the verb promise with the progressive tense in the last line. I wonder if it might make any sense.
Thanks a million in advance.
