About cleft sentences

Hi,Coke was given to American soldiers for free. It was for this reason ____ Coca Cola became legendary.1. which  2. that  3. why  4. howThinking that it is a cleft sentence, I chose 2. But searching the Internet, I came across tons of examples using "why."Are they both OK, in this example?Thanks!

For me, only "that" works. "why" sounds wrong.

It was for this reason that / why Coca Cola became legendary.

"It was the reason why Coke became legendary" is a completely different type of sentence, by the way.

In the yellow example, "it" is a dummy. In my example, "it" is the true subject of the sentence.
