About {as I shall observe afterwards in its place}

He had a Proverb in his Favour, and he got out of the Water?not being born to be drown'd, as I shall observe afterwards in its place.

the orignal proverb:

He that is born to be hanged shall never be drowned.

May I give my interpretation to [he had a proverb in his favor, and he got out of the water...not being born to be drowned]

------he had a proverb to his advantage, so that he got out of the water...for he rejected his being born to be dromned.

but I can't get [as I shall observe afterwards in its place]

Could any native speaker tell me what is what?

Thank you for your assistance.
