About an incident - Father's Day

Can I say,

It was Father's Day. Susan planned to give her father a surprise. Her mother agreed. Her mother baked a delicious cake. She put some cream on the cake to make it special. She bought her father's favourite magazine.

When Susan's father came home, he was surprised and happy. She hugged her father happily. It was a happy Father's Day.
