About an inceident happened in the park

Should I write like this way:

(a) Last Sunday was fine and sunnny. John and his friends were playing hide and seek. They played happily at the park where nearby their house.

(b) John was closing his eyes and counted to twenty. His friends quickly hid themselves.

(c) Finally, he found his friends hid behind the huge rock. John was happy because his friend would take turns. At the end, they went home together.

P/s: Can I say,

(i) John was closing his eyes with a cloth (do we call it "eyefold"?)

(ii) John eyefolded his eyes and started counting from one to twenty.
