About an event - raining

Can I say,

It was raining last Sunday. Many cars were travelling home because of the thuderstorm. Suddenly, a huge tree fell in front of the cars. Luckily, no one was hurt.

The cars were blocked by the huge tree. Some workers came cutting off the branches, They laid them on the roadside.

The policemen directed the cars. The cars slowed down and continued moving slowly. The tree was put at the roadside.
