00Like the above, I come across "pass a / the ball" many times. Which is better, "a" or "the"? Do we have to change "a" or "the" based on the situation? Or can we you only "the" in this case, because there is only one ball in the basketball game? 0-

The fourth one looks like part of a general discussion between the narrator and her/his father, in which the father is using general language to show his (daughter/son) how being good to someone usually results in reward, so "a ball" is perfectly acceptable in this context.0-
