About adverbs, I need reference!

Hi dear Friends;

I was teaching English, adverbs, and I said adverbs cannot come between "was" and "playing" in sentences like "I was playing football......., when suddenly an example come out of no where Emotion: smile.
The example said: I was just playing football...... How we can explain this? Does "just" play as an adverb rule? Since our lesson was about adverbs, it have to be an adverb Emotion: smile.

Sencond question is about the sentence below:
"Can you possibly give me a hand?" in this sentence, can "possibly" change its position? why?

Can you please introduce me a reference to read more about adverbs?

Sincerely
