Can I say,

(a) Murthy is an athlete. He practised very hard after school with his friends. He was (getting) ready for the School Sports Day (that was coming soon) / (next week)

(b)During the / On (the) Sports Day, Murthy was very confident. He took part in 100 metre / 100-metre race / one-hundred metres race. When the race began, he ran as fast as lightning. At the end / In the end / At last / Finally, he won the 1st prize and felt happy.

(c) During the / On the prize-giving ceremony, Murthy received a gold medal from his headmaster. His friends came and congratualted (for / to) him. His parents felt proud to have an active son.
