About a fire

Can I say,

Peter and John are naughty boys. Last Sunday morning, it was sunny. Their mother had gone out. Before she left, she told them to behave themselves. After a while / awhile, they played the matches in the bedroom. Suddenly, the bed was on fire.

They were scared. They quickly telephoned the fire station. Adter a few minutes, the fire fighter arrived at the scene. They quickly put out the fire.

When their parents returned home, they scolded Peter and John. They felt sorry to their parents.
