About " a drowning boy"

Can I say,

(i) Suddenly, John heard somebody / someone shouting for help.

(ii) He dived into the river to save the boy.

(iii) He caught hold of the boy's shirt and dragged him to the riverbank.

(iv) The boy thanked John for helping / for his help.
